Sugar Season Already??
No, it is not sugar season. Well, we are not actively collecting sap, yet. But for us, sugar season happens all year. We spend the nicer weather in the woods, making repairs, adding taps or thinning the trees. Some of those rainy or hot days will find us working indoors, repairing or upgrading the sugar house, packing syrup, or making and packing dry sugar, maple cream, or maple candy.
Here, my cousin Bob is making a repair to a sap ladder in our sugar woods. I’m sure my Grandfather never thought he would see sap going straight up, but it is happening. We are making the same delicious product, but in a far different way than my ancestors did. They would be amazed!
